What is FNL?
In the early 1980s, FNL began as an initiative to help keep young people "alive" on Friday Nights, because statistically speaking, alcohol related accidents were the leading cause of death for young people and the majority of those accidents were occuring on Friday nights.
Friday Night Live formed Chapters on school sites to engage young people in leadership opportunities to encourage a youth-driven, youth-led approach to prevention activities.... peers encouraging peers to make wise choices.
Through the years, FNL has taken on the full range of prevention activities; Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs, Teen Pregnancy and Violence while providing leadership skills and the knowledge to keep young people walking on the path towards success.
All of these prevention activities are provided with Youth Development principals in mind. FNL strives to provide young people with access to:
- Health, Nurtition and Shelter
- Civic Engagement
- Skill Building Opportunities
- Meaningful Relationships
- Physical and Emotional Safety
